Solo marketing lead for a fast-moving AI startup.

Sparq.Fun, an AI app that turns any photo into laugh-out-loud comedy. Launched 2025.

From September 2025 to March 2026, I ran marketing and social for Sparq.Fun as a freelance contract lead. Not as one cog in a marketing department, as the marketing function. I managed a team of freelance creators and designers, wrote across every vertical, built the social presence from nothing, and worked directly alongside the C-suite.

An AI product like Sparq has a hard marketing problem: the technology is genuinely novel, the humour is the entire value proposition, and the only channel that matters for a product like this is one most traditional marketers cannot crack. TikTok.

03The insight
Why TikTok is the hard part
Breaking through on TikTok is a one-of-a-kind marketing challenge. It requires someone uniquely embedded in niche humour segments and culture, who can monitor and adapt to trends on the fly in a way most traditional marketing managers cannot, and most other channels do not require.

For a comedy AI product, the marketing has to be as funny as the product. That can't be briefed into existence by someone standing outside the culture. It needs someone who lives in it, reads it natively, and can produce content that doesn't just participate in the trend but actually breaks through the noise.

05The translation skill

The work at Sparq sat at the intersection of two things that rarely live in one person: the ability to translate complex AI and technology concepts into clear, persuasive narratives, and the cultural fluency to make those narratives actually land on the platforms where the audience lives.

Messaging worked at multiple levels simultaneously, clean enough for the landing page, sharp enough for the ad, and culturally native enough for the For You page. One product. Multiple registers. Complete consistency across all of them.

06What this proved

I can own a marketing function, not just contribute to one. Solo lead, managing a team, reporting to the C-suite, across every vertical, with the CMO stepping back to "watch the delivery shine."

TikTok breakthrough is a specific, rare capability. And it's one a Chief Marketing Officer has put in writing as the single thing she'd prioritise hiring me for above all else.
